Bassam – Gujan Maitresse [RA review]

Instant rewind.

Distrikt first cropped up on my radar with a 12-inch of impeccable dub and techno by Kosh. Now Paris-via-Casablanca label boss Bassam takes the wheel for another starry eyed trip. From the first gentle wisp of synths on “Gujan Maitresse,” you should prepare to blast off into the incalculably far corners of the cosmos. The bassline and drum programming have some electro gristle, but it’s the high-end where the magic’s at. Between the glitzy major key pad crescendo in the break and the vibrato polishing the chords to a reflective glisten, it’s enough to get even the most stone-faced dancer whistling.
